Garden Lighting Installers Brighton & Hove

Why use an electrician for your garden lighting installation?

Garden lighting installations can look stunning but come with their own set of challenges. Outdoor electrical installations require an electrical installation certificate if it is a new circuit or a minor electrical installation certificate if it is run off an existing circuit. Outdoor electrical work is notifiable to Building Control.

When designing a garden lighting installation you need to consider not only how it will look as the garden is at the moment, but also how the different elements in the garden may change over time. The same applies to positioning of cables. That little tree or shrub may only have small roots now, but that is going to change as it grows and the roots may damage your cabling. Animals, water and garden tools are all also potential risks to external electrical work and cables need to be protected by proper ducting.

Another issue is where you take your electricity supply from. It might make sense to run your garden lights from your kitchen. But if you have a fault in your garden lighting you could find yourself without a working kitchen until it is fixed. We have a lot of experience creating and installing external lighting designs and know how to avoid some of the more common pitfalls. We can also advise you on the best lights to use for outdoor electrical installations. Any electrical accessories installed must be ip rated and be RCD protected.

Garden building electrical installations

Creating extra space by installing a garden office or garden building is growing in popularity. Man Caves and She Sheds are increasingly in demand. Supplying electricity from your house to your shed is another job that must meet Part P Electrical Safety regulations.  Professional expertise is needed to correctly calculate resistance and meet these regulations. You will also need a consumer unit for the building. It is not a particularly time consuming job so can be relatively inexpensive and is definitely not an area to try and take on yourself.
